Former NYC officer shares insights on 'malevolent' spirit at police station

NYPD Exorcism: A Ghostly Encounter

Police officer turned demonologist, Chris DeFlorio, has shared a remarkable story about exorcising a spirit that haunted his former workplace, Harlem’s 32nd Precinct.

DeFlorio, who retired in 2021, now investigates paranormal phenomena with his wife, Harmony. However, one of his last tasks while still on the force took a turn towards the supernatural after a rookie officer described a terrifying encounter in the station’s bunkhouse.

“The officer was on a night shift and, instead of heading home, he chose to rest upstairs. After drifting off, he felt something walking behind him,” DeFlorio recounted, reflecting on his two decades of service.

“He bolted upright, but no one was there. He tried to shake it off and returned to sleep, only to feel someone grip his legs. Something was pinning him down and bouncing on the sofa.”

After breaking free from this unsettling experience, the officer switched on the lights, yet “there was still no one in the room.” But then, he noticed a shadow moving toward the door.

On May 8, 2020, news of this disturbing episode rippled through the precinct. DeFlorio and Byron Pena, another former officer who had his own spooky encounter years earlier, shared their experiences.

Pena expressed relief upon hearing about the rookie’s ordeal, hopeful that the spirit would finally be addressed. “After he recounted his experience, I recalled something similar from the early 2000s when a power outage kept me tossing and turning,” he said. “I felt an uneasy presence I couldn’t explain but didn’t discuss with anyone.”

Following the troubling reports, DeFlorio was called in for an exorcism on May 10. Faced with uncertainty, he entered the bunk room. “What I experienced there wasn’t something I could perceive with my senses. It had a presence that confirmed the officer wasn’t lying,” he admitted, unsure if he would make it out safely.

Equipped with holy water, frankincense, and an ancient prayer for exorcism, DeFlorio took on the challenge.

After an hour, he stepped back into the room, which now felt remarkably different. “It was so much brighter,” he said. “When battling something demonic, faith is essential.”

Since that day, there have been no strange noises or eerie occurrences reported from the precinct. “I’d call it a success,” DeFlorio concluded.
