Kamala Harris Hints at Potential 2028 Presidential Run

Former Vice President Kamala Harris mentioned during a recent BBC interview that she might consider running for president again in 2028. “I’m not done. I’ve always viewed my career as one of service; it’s just who I am,” she stated on “Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.”

She dismissed recent polls positioning her as the second choice behind California Governor Gavin Newsom for the Democratic nomination. “If I had listened to polls before, I wouldn’t have run the first time. I certainly wouldn’t have run again, and I definitely wouldn’t be sitting here now,” she emphasized.

A poll conducted by the Politico Citrine Center Possibility Institute from late July to early August showed Governor Newsom with a 25% approval rating among Democrats and independents, while Harris garnered 19%. Despite this, she holds relatively strong favorability among Democratic leaders, with a recent analysis indicating that 54% have a somewhat or very unfavorable view of her.

In her interview, Harris reiterated themes from her 2024 campaign, vocalizing her criticism of former President Donald Trump, whom she labeled as authoritarian. She referenced recent controversies, including the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel from ABC, assigning blame to Trump for what she described as his heavy-handed approach. Although there’s no clear evidence tying Trump to Kimmel’s firing, she claimed that Trump’s sensitivity to criticism led to attempts to suppress dissenting media.

“Look at how he weaponized federal agencies against political satirists,” she said. “He made it clear he would use the Department of Justice for his own ends—and he did.”

Harris also criticized business leaders for appearing too compliant with Trump’s agenda, speculating that many have their reasons, whether it’s aspirations for power, seeking favorable mergers, or hoping to evade scrutiny.

In response to Harris’s statements, the White House press secretary dismissed her remarks. “When Kamala Harris lost the election heavily, she should have taken the hint. The American people aren’t interested in her exaggerated claims,” said spokeswoman Abigail Jackson, suggesting that Harris might be airing her grievances to international audiences for that very reason.
