Shooting at Lincoln University During Homecoming Weekend

A gunman opened fire during homecoming weekend at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, resulting in one fatality and several injuries, according to officials.

Mark Partey, the university’s police chief, stated at a press conference that one person was killed and six others were hospitalized due to their injuries.

Authorities confirmed that a suspect has been apprehended. “Law enforcement agencies are currently on-site and conducting an active investigation,” the Chester County District Attorney’s Office noted in their statement. They also advised the public to avoid the area.

Lincoln University, located around 72 miles southwest of Philadelphia, is a historically black college and university (HBCU). This weekend, the campus was bustling with homecoming activities, including a significant football game on Saturday afternoon.

Governor Josh Shapiro expressed his condolences, stating on social media, “I have been informed about the mass shooting at Lincoln University. My administration is offering full support to President Allen and local law enforcement.” He urged people to avoid the vicinity and follow law enforcement’s guidance while asking for prayers for the university community.

The local police departments and university have yet to respond to requests for further information.
