Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa delivers his best performance of the season despite a swollen eye.

After experiencing their most significant defeat of the season, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa pointed to his lack of height as a challenge when trying to hit receivers further down the field. “You don’t have to just throw it blindly,” he mentioned.

Interestingly, in his next game, he seemed to do just the opposite and delivered one of his best performances this season.

Tagovailoa started his Sunday with a swollen left eye but went on to complete 20 out of 26 passes for 205 yards and achieved four touchdowns in a decisive 34-10 victory against the Atlanta Falcons.

He wasn’t sure what caused the swelling—perhaps some illness—but ultimately, his focus was on securing the win for his team.

“This was probably one of the best team wins we’ve ever had,” he shared with reporters post-game. “This is the kind of thing that needs to carry over to next week.”

The Dolphins had previously beaten the Cleveland Browns 31-6. However, they entered the game against Atlanta after Tagovailoa faced criticism for throwing three interceptions in consecutive games, halting a promising 6-1 start and adding to the pressure within the team’s locker room.

Coach Mike McDaniel had fueled speculation around his own job security by apparently hinting at needing improvement from Tagovailoa before the game against the Falcons.

In light of concerns regarding his position, McDaniel had remarked that they hope Tagovailoa won’t “throw 10 picks,” referencing his total interceptions this season.

Despite the rumors, Tagovailoa donned a protective visor and delivered a stellar performance, throwing four touchdown passes without any interceptions, resulting in a season-high passer rating of 138.6.

“It feels good, but it would be a great feeling to win,” Tagovailoa expressed. “People will say what they want, but this is our job.”

After the game, he recognized McDaniel’s impact, praising the “phenomenal” job done by offensive coordinator Frank Smith and the offensive line.

With this vital win, the Dolphins (2-6) aim to build on their momentum heading into their upcoming Thursday Night Football matchup at home against the Baltimore Ravens on October 30th.
