Taylor Sheridan Moving to NBCUniversal from Paramount
Taylor Sheridan, a standout figure in television creation, is set to depart from Paramount and join NBCUniversal. This substantial five-year deal for film, television, and streaming will kick off on January 1, 2029, once his existing agreement with Paramount concludes.
His ongoing projects at Paramount include Mayor of Kingstown, Landman, Lioness, Tulsa King, and three upcoming Yellowstone spin-offs: Beth & Rip, Madison, and Y: Marshall for CBS.
Sheridan is behind the Yellowstone universe, including titles like 1923 and 1883.
This shift represents a considerable loss for Paramount+, Paramount Studios, and Skydance, which recently acquired Paramount. Reports suggest that the new owners had concerns over Sheridan’s substantial budget.
Interestingly, NBC seems unfazed by the financial demands. After all, Sheridan was instrumental in elevating Paramount+ into the spotlight. If he manages to replicate that success for NBC’s Peacock, despite its current struggles, this high-stakes deal could prove valuable.
On a brighter note for Paramount, they will still have access to the Yellowstone franchise and other shows, allowing them some flexibility.
However, Sheridan’s contributions go beyond showrunning. He’s the creative force behind these series, having written or co-written many of the scripts and directed numerous episodes. His style stands out, paralleling the greats like Norman Lear and Aaron Sorkin. So, this really is quite a blow for Skydance, possibly the most significant loss in their television sector.
It seems NBC is gearing up for a serious foray into the streaming arena, as it’s crucial for the future. Peacock has been lagging, but by acquiring Sheridan and also bringing over the creator of Stranger Things from Netflix, they’re positioning themselves to house two of the most noteworthy success stories in television from the last two decades.
