Authorities have identified three suspects linked to a Halloween prank that frightened a family in Virginia earlier this month.
After an extensive investigation lasting over 100 hours, Alexandria Police Chief Tarik McGuire stated that the individuals captured on video, wearing Halloween masks and attempting to break into a residence, were actually cousins of the homeowner. This information came to light following several tips, including a confession from a woman who disclosed that she, along with her two sons and a nephew, organized the stunt.
The prank unfolded on October 14 in Alexandria, not far from Washington, D.C. A security video showing the trio in frightening costumes trying to enter the family’s home quickly went viral.
Curiously, it was revealed that two additional adults and a child had also participated in filming the event. The suspects were dressed in costumes that included a clown mask, a Michael Myers outfit from the “Halloween” films, and a sinister nun disguise. They could be heard shouting phrases like “this is my worst nightmare” while banging on the door and, according to reports, they entered the backyard, causing damage to the property. This led police to initially regard the situation as an attempted robbery.
Interestingly, since the family has decided not to pursue any charges, the suspects will avoid prosecution, and their identities remain undisclosed. McGuire mentioned that the situation could have turned deadly, especially considering the homeowner’s brother was the first person contacted with a firearm in response to the incident. The family has emphasized they were unaware of any plans for the prank.
McGuire commented on the disturbing nature of the event, labeling it a “moral failure” that could have had serious repercussions.
