Brett Favre Discusses Arch Manning’s Performance on New Podcast
NFL icon Brett Favre shared his thoughts on Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning during the debut episode of his podcast. He briefly mentioned Manning’s game against Mississippi State, where he unfortunately had to sit out due to a concussion. Favre noted that Manning reminds him more of his grandfather, Archie Manning, rather than his uncles, Peyton and Eli, particularly because of his agility on the field.
“I think he can definitely play… They were lucky to win that game against Mississippi State,” Favre reflected. “I thought Arch showed great resolve in the second half. He wasn’t aiming for that last touchdown pass, but he made some impressive plays that kept us in the game.”
According to Favre, there’s a lot of pressure on Manning, which is understandable given expectations. While he didn’t start off strong, Favre believes he’s gradually finding his footing. The concussion? Just a minor hiccup. “He’s very capable,” Favre emphasized. “He’s more athletic than Peyton or Eli. He has the ability to move and run like his grandfather Archie, and he’s going to surprise a lot of people with his skills. I mean, he has a bright future ahead.”
Last weekend, Texas clinched a thrilling 45-22 victory over Mississippi State in double overtime, rallying with 24 points in the fourth quarter to force the extra period. Quarterback Matthew Caldwell contributed significantly with a touchdown pass.
Manning’s stats included completing 29 of 46 passes for 346 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception, though he only managed six rushing yards on ten attempts.
Although Texas started the season as the top team in the Associated Press preseason poll, they’ve since faced two setbacks that affected their ranking. Now positioned at No. 20, they gear up for a crucial matchup against No. 9 Vanderbilt on Saturday. Manning’s participation remains uncertain after entering concussion protocol earlier this week.
