Shooting Incidents in Chicago Over the Weekend

Over the weekend in Chicago, police reported nearly 20 people were shot, with three fatalities. The shooting victims ranged in age from 18 to 70, which is pretty concerning.

One of the victims was a woman, though her age is still unknown. She was found unresponsive in an alley behind the 11000 block of South Mackinac Avenue around 10:18 a.m. Sadly, she had been shot twice in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Friday, just one incident was reported. This occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on the 5500 block of South Lafayette Avenue, where an unknown shooter shot a 43-year-old woman multiple times while she was in the street. She was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

Then, on Saturday, more than a dozen people were caught up in violence, with two of the shootings resulting in fatalities. One of those shootings involved a red Dodge Charger that was traversing the 4400 block of West Augusta Boulevard shortly before 5:30 a.m. when gunfire hit the vehicle. A 37-year-old man, identified later as Mauro Josemartin, was shot in the back and was declared dead after being taken to Mount Sinai Hospital. His passenger, a 29-year-old man, was shot multiple times in the head and was in critical condition.

In another shooting the same day, a 23-year-old man was shot in the chest while riding in a car on West Jackson Boulevard around 3:10 p.m. He was also taken to Stroger Hospital in Cook County, where unfortunately, he was pronounced dead.

On Sunday, the police noted that six additional shootings took place, including one that was fatal. Again, a woman, whose age is still unknown, was found in the same alley on South Mackinac Avenue, again shot twice in the head.

In non-fatal incidents on Saturday, four unidentified assailants shot at a 43-year-old man in the 1500 block of East 75th Street shortly before 4 p.m. He had bruises on his ankle but is expected to recover.

Additionally, just before 6 a.m. on Sunday, two young men, aged 18 and 19, were shot while they were working in the 100 block of East 51st Street. The younger man suffered a gunshot wound to his upper right leg, and the other was shot in the left calf; thankfully, both have been reported in stable condition.

Later that morning around 10:45 a.m., a group of individuals exited a dark SUV outside a store in the 800 block of East 79th Street, firing shots at two men aged 66 and 70. The 66-year-old sustained multiple injuries, while the 70-year-old was shot once in the buttocks. Both were taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where one was listed in critical condition and the other in fair condition.
