Andy Cohen recently shared some interesting details about his friendship with John Mayer. Speaking on the podcast “Call Her Daddy,” he described how a recent night out turned a bit “physical.”
Cohen started by explaining their typical outings, which always begin with dinner, and noted that they prefer to sit on the same side of the booth. “We always sit next to each other,” he mentioned, before quickly denying any allegations of holding hands.
They had a particular night at Sunset Tower that he reflected on, saying he got so close to Mayer that his friend remarked, “Andy.” Cohen admitted he might have gotten a bit carried away while joking around. “We were in a puddle of laughter,” he said, expressing their deep affection for each other.
When pressed about whether he secretly loved Mayer, Cohen simply stated, “No, we love each other.” He went on to say that if he could find a partner like Mayer, it would be magical, but for now, he feels grateful for their bond.
Both men have been friends for over a decade, and there’s been speculation about whether their relationship is romantic. Back in May 2024, Cohen addressed the rumors, affirming how much they care for each other without any romantic involvement. “People think we’re sleeping together, but we’re definitely not,” he clarified.
Mayer has also responded to the ongoing speculation, emphasizing that friendships can be platonic, even across different sexual orientations. He pointed out some societal assumptions about such relationships that he finds limiting. “To suggest that people are questioning friendships like mine and Andy’s undermines the public’s ability to understand diversity in relationships,” he said.
He further asserted that the idea of a close friendship between a straight man and a gay man doesn’t have to have any sexual undertones. He concluded by saying that if anyone doubts these kinds of friendships, it’s a viewpoint that doesn’t need validation.
Cohen also shared that he is currently single and exploring dating apps, while Mayer, known for his past relationships with celebrities like Katy Perry and Taylor Swift, recently dated Kat Stickler.
