Riley Gaines and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in Ongoing Feud
Riley Gaines and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have been exchanging jabs on social media and various platforms. This all kicked off when Gaines, a conservative commentator, shared a photo featuring her with AOC’s associate Zoran Mamdani, Bernie Sanders, and others, captioned, “We are being destroyed from within.”
Recently, AOC took to social media to critique Gaines, suggesting she “get a real job.” This came after the 25-year-old new mother appeared on The Ingraham Angle, inviting Ocasio-Cortez to engage in a debate. In response, Gaines asserted, “I have a real job. I’m a mother. It’s the most important and rewarding job in the world. If you had a baby girl like me, I think you would understand my position a little more.”
Another conservative figure, Allie Beth Stuckey, came to Gaines’ defense, adding her own commentary to the ongoing debate. Stuckey referenced a 2020 tweet from AOC claiming “sex work is work” and argued about the legitimacy of various types of work, stating, “Being a mother and women’s advocate is not a ‘real job,’ but prostitution is a real job.” She also listed what she believes women are entitled to regarding private spaces and fair competition.
Ocasio-Cortez herself took a dig at a former swimmer, humorously noting, “Maybe if I channeled all this anger into swimming faster, I might not have finished fifth.”
Social media users have been vocal about these exchanges. For instance, Amy Reichardt, a local politician in San Diego, commented, “Imagine hating another woman for defending a woman and then mocking her for not hitting a man. That’s left-wing feminism in 2025.” Meanwhile, professor Gary Francione expressed agreement with AOC, describing the situation as regressive and questioning the modern Democratic Party’s direction.
In the midst of these clashes, the conversation expanded. One user on X mused whether Gaines had the potential to outmatch AOC in a debate. Gaines responded, “I’ll debate her any day. She can defend socialism. I can defend capitalism. She can defend the exclusion of God. I can defend the biblical worldview. She can defend child sacrifice. I can defend the sanctity of life.”
As of now, AOC has yet to address Gaines’ debate challenge.
