Trump’s Border Czar Responds to Judge’s Order on ICE Actions
On Tuesday, Tom Homan, President Trump’s border czar, appeared on Fox News Channel’s “The Ingraham Angle” to discuss U.S. District Judge Sarah Ellis’ recent directive requiring Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials to obtain approval for immigration-related enforcement actions.
This move has been backed by Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, who proposed that ICE agents wear Border Patrol uniforms to better appreciate the challenges they encounter.
“Tom, this judge has issued a warning,” host Laura Ingraham remarked. “Welcome, Tom. It’s nice to see you. I mentioned that if the agents were using this dispersant, they should be ready to justify it, or they could lose their authority. What could have happened if Bovino and his team hadn’t dispersed that gathering as they did? You heard the threats. What might have occurred, Tom?”
Homan replied, “Border Patrol agents could face serious harm or even death. This is an extreme decision from a radical judge. The Justice Department plans to appeal, and we will navigate through this. But here’s a suggestion: the judge, Governor Pritzker, and Mayor Johnson should wear Border Patrol uniforms for a day. Let’s see how they manage alongside these agents. Border Patrol personnel are thoroughly trained in the use of force. It’s not directed at peaceful protesters, but if there’s interference, threats, or assaults, they are justified in their response, even up to using lethal force if absolutely necessary due to credible threats or severe injuries.”
“These agents are highly trained,” he continued. “Back in 1984, when I was in the academy, we were well-prepared for crowd and riot control. I would challenge the judge: if you really want to understand what’s happening, put on that uniform and join those on the front lines. See if these men and women are justified in defending themselves.”
