Vice President J.D. Vance Addresses Large Crowds at Ole Miss

On Wednesday, Vice Chancellor J.D. Vance spoke to a vibrant audience of over 10,000 at the University of Mississippi, commemorating the late Turning Point USA founder, Charlie Kirk. His speech was spontaneous and heartfelt, diverging from prepared notes, marking a significant moment for the conservative youth movement.

The event, part of the sold-out This is the Turning Point Tour, took place in Ole Miss’s pavilion, becoming the largest gathering since Kirk’s tragic assassination six weeks ago. Students braved the rain to see him, filling the venue to the point that fire officials were notified, a clear indication of the organization’s strong presence and Vance’s appeal.

The rally featured priority seating for students and was attended by Mississippi’s Republican Governor, Tate Reeves. It was broadcasted live across various platforms, including One America News and Right Side Broadcasting.

After being introduced by Kirk’s widow, Erica Kirk, Vance, visibly emotional, received a roaring welcome. He called on Gen Z to “stand up for freedom” before engaging in a question-and-answer session reminiscent of Charlie Kirk’s style.

During his address, Vance shared the news of Kirk’s assassination, which he had learned about during a meeting at the White House. Initially hopeful, he later faced the stark reality of the tragedy. His thoughts were with Erika and their children, but he also expressed concern for the nation as a whole.

Vance emphasized the importance of continuing Kirk’s mission, encouraging students to get involved in politics and campus activities. He reminisced about discussions he had with Kirk prior to his death, particularly regarding America’s role in foreign conflicts, hinting at Kirk’s deep apprehensions.

As the speech progressed, Vance highlighted Kirk’s dedication to openly expressing his faith within a society that often challenges it. This boldness, according to Vance, is not merely about personal devotion; it’s a mark of true courage. He directly challenged the audience, urging them to live out their faith boldly.

Stepping beyond political discourse, Vance offered personal insights, advising students to prioritize building families, pursuing fulfilling careers, and leading meaningful lives instead of seeking validation on social media or in social scenes.

The Vice President’s visit drew the largest turnout from students at the university in recent years, showcasing the growing impact of Turning Point USA and its alignment with broader national political strategies.

Event organizers also mentioned that attendees had to pre-register and undergo safety screenings.
