Former Eagles player challenges the league regarding fines

Jason Kelce Criticizes Potential Fines for Player Comments on Officiating

Former Philadelphia Eagles player Jason Kelce voiced concern over the idea of fines for athletes who speak out against officiating, referencing remarks made by New York Giants linebacker Kayvon Thibodeau during a recent game.

Thibodeau was visibly upset when officials ended a play after he stripped the ball from Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. He expressed his frustration, labeling the call as “bull–.” However, teammate Brian Burns cautioned him that airing his grievances could lead to a fine.

Kelce quickly chimed in, stating, “I don’t agree with that. You know me; I don’t usually complain to officials. I’ve never been that way. I don’t think any of us should be fined for expressing our feelings.” In a candid moment on the show “New Heights,” he continued, “I think that’s nonsense, and I’m generally supportive of officials.” He acknowledged, “But I mean, come on, that was a bad call. What else can I say?”

His brother, Travis Kelsey, added in a slightly humorous tone, “Can’t I just share my thoughts on that call?”

Kelce emphasized that players should be allowed to voice their opinions without fear of penalties. He argued that not allowing such expression seems contrary to the spirit of free speech. The discussion also hinted at the possibility of stricter regulations regarding certain plays in the league, specifically regarding tush pushes.
