Two undocumented immigrants from Dallas are facing serious murder charges after allegedly shooting and killing a pregnant 17-year-old girl, which also resulted in the death of her unborn child, according to local authorities.
The suspects, Yeremy Alexander Zapata Alemán, 17, from Honduras, and Kaynor Ariel Carrero Giron, 20, from Nicaragua, were involved in a confrontation at a 7-Eleven parking lot that escalated into a drive-by shooting, as described by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The incident took place around 12:40 a.m. on May 3.
The young victim was with a friend when they confronted the two suspects before leaving the store. Shortly after, the suspects reportedly followed them out of the parking lot.
During the shooting, Carrero Giron was said to be driving the car, and gunfire struck the victim and her unborn child. A nearby vehicle was also hit, but its driver wasn’t injured. Following the incident, police located Carrero Giron’s vehicle, leading to a pursuit that ended in a crash.
Upon their arrest, authorities discovered cocaine, MDMA, and illegal firearms in the car.
The pregnant victim, who was 22 weeks along, informed police of her condition and was taken to a hospital, where a C-section was performed. Sadly, the baby did not survive the ordeal.
If found guilty of the murder charges, both Zapata Alemán and Carrero Giron could potentially face the death penalty. In addition, Carrero Giron faces multiple other charges, including aggravated assault, possession of cocaine, and unlawful weapon possession.
Zapata Alemán also faces charges of aggravated assault and possession of cocaine. Meanwhile, attempts to reach the Department of Homeland Security for further information about the case have been made.
