Immigration Operations Remain Active Despite Requests
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem declinedIllinois Governor JB Pritzker’s plea to halt immigration enforcement activities over the Halloween weekend. Noem made her remarks during a news conference in Gary, Indiana, where she provided updates on Operation Midway Blitz.
Governor Pritzker had suggested a temporary pause to safeguard children from federal agents, particularly in light of recent disturbances where federal agents had to deploy tear gas due to local unrest during the operation.
Noem strongly rebutted the governor’s request. “We are certainly not going to stop our work aimed at keeping communities safe. It’s unfortunate that Governor Pritzker doesn’t grasp how crucial our work is in bringing criminals to justice and keeping them off the streets,” she commented.
She elaborated on the seriousness of their operations, stating, “Some individuals we detain through ICE and CBP have histories of child assaults, sexual crimes, and other serious offenses. These people should not be walking our streets, and we’re committed to protecting our children from them.”
Since the initiation of Operation Midway Blitz, over 3,000 illegal immigrants have been arrested, as announced by Noem.
Collaboration with ICE in Indiana
Indiana, known as “America’s Crossroads,” is actively partnering with ICE to apprehend illegal immigrants operating large commercial vehicles. This comes after a series of dangerous incidents involving illegal drivers, which have resulted in fatal accidents.
Noem provided more details: “Through our joint efforts, we’ve arrested and removed 223 illegal aliens from the roads, including 146 drivers. Among those, there were 46 semi-truck drivers, with an additional 82 involved in box trucks, buses, and other types of vehicles.”
It was noted that some arrested individuals had obtained commercial driver’s licenses from various states, including California, Illinois, and New York.
