Trey Yesavage Shines in World Series Game 5

Trey Yesavage has emerged as a hero in Toronto, making his mark in World Series history by striking out 12 batters against the Los Angeles Dodgers during Game 5. This impressive feat set a record for the most strikeouts by a rookie in the Fall Classic.

Thanks to Yesavage’s lethal splitter, the Blue Jays claimed a 6-1 victory, bringing them one step closer to their first championship since 1993. They now return home with the potential of closing out the series in front of their fans.

Yesavage’s performance caught attention, especially when his girlfriend, Taylor Flick, shared her emotional response on social media. She posted, “I’m still crying,” followed by a second message stating, “Best day ever!!!”

Before this postseason, Yesavage had only pitched 13 innings in the MLB. Yet, he notably threw 5.1 no-hit innings with 11 strikeouts against the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series. After a challenging outing against the Seattle Mariners, where he allowed five earned runs in four innings, he rebounded, giving up the same number of runs over his last three outings while collecting 16.2 innings.

The game kicked off with a bang as Davis Schneider homered on the very first pitch. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. kept the momentum going, adding his eighth home run of the postseason, pushing the Blue Jays to a crucial win in Game 5.

As for Yesavage, his only slip-up came in the third inning against Enrique Hernandez, who hit a home run and briefly reignited the crowd at Dodger Stadium. However, Toronto quickly regained control; Teoscar Hernandez misplayed a hit, allowing Dalton Varsho to advance to third. Ernie Clement then delivered a sacrifice fly, reestablishing a two-run lead.

With the lead in hand, the Blue Jays added more runs in the seventh inning thanks to a single and a wild pitch, followed by a hit from Bo Bichette that brought another runner home, making the score 5-1. By then, Yesavage’s night was over; Blue Jays manager John Schneider turned to Seranthony Dominguez and closer Jeff Hoffman to seal the victory.

Now, the Dodgers, last year’s champions, face a challenging situation. They must win the next two games to keep their title hopes alive, with right players stepping up to pitch for them. Yoshinobu Yamamoto will aim for his third consecutive complete game after leading Los Angeles to victory in Game 2, taking on Kevin Gausman, who had a solid outing until allowing a solo home run in Toronto.

Game 6 is set to take place on Halloween night in Toronto, starting at 8:08 p.m. ET.
