Colts Co-Owner Karlie Irsay Gordon Making Waves on the Sideline
Karlie Irsay Gordon, co-owner of the Indianapolis Colts, has been turning heads this season. Fans noticed her on the sideline sporting a headset as the team aims for a strong kick-off in 2025.
Irsay Gordon is the daughter of Jim Irsay, who passed away earlier this year. While her involvement with the team has been significant in recent years, the Colts’ impressive 7-1 start has understandably spotlighted her role even more.
Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has given her praise, stating, “She’s a great stepper now! … She’s making her presence known and that’s leading to wins.” He added, “I’ve never seen a team do this well in the last 25 years.” His remarks raise a question often pondered in sports: do we need more women in this field? “What they offer is something that most men overlook,” he remarked.
Irsay Gordon has her own take on the dynamics of team management. She pointed out that sometimes head coaches might hesitate to let higher-ups get involved, fearing micromanagement. Yet, she believes that if she’s investing considerable resources, she shouldn’t be left out of decisions that affect the team.
In June, Irsay Gordon shared insights into her involvement: “You need to be able to say, ‘Is this person full of BS? Does he even know what he’s talking about?’” She noted that using headsets has helped her understand the complex workings of a football team. For instance, she reflected on how sometimes penalties can be misattributed to players when it’s actually a mix-up from the coaching staff.
Her hands-on approach not only enhances her understanding but also helps shape critical decisions. “It helps us know where we need to tweak, what resources we need, what we need to fix,” she expressed. Her involvement at this level, she believes, could potentially save significant costs in decision-making.
