Republicans attack Obama judge for his involvement in the Biden FBI's 'partisan revenge,' call for impeachment

Republicans Seek Impeachment of Judge Boasberg

Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and several other Republicans are advocating for the impeachment of U.S. District Judge James Boasberg, who was appointed during the Obama administration. They claim he played a role in Biden’s surveillance of Republican senators’ phone records.

During a press conference on Wednesday about the FBI’s Arctic Frost operation, Cruz urged the House to take action against Boasberg, stating that the judge effectively joined a partisan fight against 20% of Republican senators.

“This order is an abuse of power.”

Senator Eric Schmidt (R-Missouri) echoed this sentiment, asserting that Boasberg’s actions, particularly against Cruz and potentially others, warrant impeachment. He emphasized the need for accountability in such matters.

Previously, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) revealed documents indicating that the Biden FBI accessed personal phone records of at least nine Republican senators as part of Arctic Frost. This operation contributed to a lawsuit against former President Donald Trump following the appointment of special counsel Jack Smith, which was deemed unconstitutional.

Grassley later disclosed that Smith’s team subpoenaed records from over 400 Republican-related individuals and organizations, a move he labeled a “fishing expedition.”

Cruz, who has faced leaks of his office and phone records, criticized the indiscriminate targeting of conservatives, calling it “egregious.” He suggested that these secret subpoenas violated constitutional rights, including free speech and the separation of powers.

A court order was filed by a Texas senator to prevent Boasberg from notifying AT&T about the Biden administration’s collection of Cruz’s phone data, which is expected to be in effect for at least a year.

The order indicates that disclosing such information could potentially tamper with evidence, intimidate witnesses, and threaten the integrity of the investigation.

Cruz stressed that there is no evidence suggesting he could destroy or tamper with evidence or intimidate witnesses, asserting that this order constitutes an abuse of power and reflects a weaponized legal system.

“Mr. Boasberg is a radical leftist judge who has gotten out of control.”

Though Cruz admitted he hadn’t seen subpoenas for other senators, he speculated that Boasberg may have printed them out inappropriately.

He noted that litigants making baseless claims in federal court risk sanctions, and similarly, judges signing orders without evidence are overstepping their authority.

Boasberg did not respond to requests for comment from Blaze News.

Controversies Surrounding Boasberg

Cruz further characterized Boasberg as a radical leftist, pointing out his history of issuing nationwide injunctions against Trump’s administration.

Boasberg has actively sought to deflect criticism of being a radical judge. He has made various controversial rulings, including one that released a woman accused of threatening Trump’s life, and temporarily blocking the deportation of suspected terrorists.

Calls for Boasberg’s impeachment have surfaced multiple times, especially after he prevented the deportation of individuals linked to the terrorist organization Tren de Aragua. Cruz has previously labeled Boasberg a “radical leftist lunatic.”

In addition, Congressman Brandon Gill (Texas) introduced impeachment articles accusing Boasberg of overreaching his authority and compromising public safety while prioritizing political agendas.
