Body Camera Footage Released by DHS
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has shared video from body cameras worn by Border Patrol agents in Chicago’s Old Irving Park area, capturing a tense situation that led to arrests and the deployment of tear gas.
A report indicated that a witness recorded a man being taken into custody after he refused to move his vehicle, obstructing a narrow road. This individual, identified as a U.S. citizen by his running club, allegedly sustained six broken ribs during the confrontation.
“After hurling insults at law enforcement, he leaped from his car towards the officers and resisted being arrested,” a statement detailed.
In reaction to the situation, DHS released footage that shows the man not only ignoring commands but also exiting his vehicle to confront an officer. According to the DHS video, he was not forcibly removed from the vehicle.
“He lunged from his vehicle toward law enforcement and resisted arrest. During the altercation, another U.S. citizen assaulted the man, hitting him in the head. Both were subsequently arrested,” DHS reported.
The operation was aimed at apprehending an undocumented individual from Mexico, who had prior assault charges against him.
“Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem made a strong statement, emphasizing that those causing disruptions will not deter the enforcement of the law,” DHS asserted.
During a press conference in nearby Indiana, Secretary Noem announced that since the initiation of Operation Midway Blitz in September, over 3,000 illegal immigrants have been arrested.
While the focus was mainly on Chicago, the operation also effectively led to the arrest of 146 drivers illegally present in Indiana, including operators of various large vehicles.
