Doctoral Student Accused of Assaulting Multiple Women

A 30-year-old Chinese man, who completed his doctorate at the University of California, has admitted to committing a shocking crime involving the drugging, binding, and sexual assault of three women. Allegations state he later posed them in explicit positions, according to prosecutors.

Sizhe Wang, who pursued a PhD in electrical engineering at the University of Southern California, reportedly mixed a drug into his victims’ food and beverages from 2021 to 2024. Prosecutors claim that he bound the unconscious victims using leather straps, injected drugs into their bodies, and then assaulted them.

As part of the horrific attacks, he allegedly forced victims into sexual positions while taking both Polaroid and digital photos during the incidents.

Following his arrest on August 28, it is reported that Wang provided police with a precise account of the three assaults, as noted in a complaint filed by Deputy District Attorney Katherine Mariano.

The first victim, identified only as Jane Doe 1, was a childhood friend who traveled with Wang to San Diego in December 2021. While she was distracted, he allegedly slipped crushed benzodiazepine into her drink at a bar. He then used a syringe to inject sedatives into her body, restrained her, and assaulted her.

Photographs taken during the incident showed her in a state of unconsciousness, with a dental device inserted in her mouth. The images were described as emphasizing her vulnerable state.

The second victim, referred to as Jane Doe 2, was a friend from China who came to the U.S. to study. Wang also allegedly drugged and assaulted her. The third victim, known as Jane Doe 3, was a graduate classmate and considered a close friend.

Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton of the Los Angeles Police Department remarked that the investigation might reveal additional victims who may not fully understand what happened to them. There are indications of recurring patterns in Wang’s behavior.

According to the complaint, Wang was overheard discussing plans to escape to China if he were released on bail, noting that the U.S. has no extradition treaty with China.

Police discovered a pill bottle in Wang’s residence containing a liquid that tested positive for midazolam, the substance allegedly used in the assaults. Additionally, investigators found multiple cameras believed to hold further documentation of his illegal actions.

They also retrieved syringes, leather straps, and other items used during the assaults. Notably, Wang has co-authored at least 24 academic papers, indicating he had a promising academic career ahead. As he faces charges of rape and related offenses, he has pleaded not guilty.
