Injury Update for Travis Hunter
Travis Hunter, a standout player for the Jacksonville Jaguars, was unexpectedly listed on the team’s injury report on Friday. The head coach, Liam Cohen, informed the media that Hunter, who recently won the Heisman Trophy, is dealing with a non-contact knee injury. There’s uncertainty about whether Hunter will be able to play for the rest of the season.
Cohen expressed concern for Hunter, saying, “We’re assessing the injury situation to figure out how to proceed for Travis and the team. It’s unfortunate for him and everyone involved. He seems okay right now; it just feels like a bit of a setback for his return to the big leagues.”
Hunter had an impressive performance just before the injury against the Los Angeles Rams in London, where he recorded eight catches for 101 yards and scored a touchdown. The Jaguars planned to make him their primary receiver in the upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders, especially with Brian Thomas Jr. struggling with nine dropped passes this season.
So far this season, Hunter has participated in 486 snaps, split between offense and defense—324 snaps on offense and 162 on defense, accounting for 67% and 36% of his plays, respectively.
Before Hunter’s injury, the Jaguars were already facing challenges with their receiving corps. Thomas has been limited in practice due to a shoulder issue, and Tim Patrick has been dealing with a groin injury. There’s a lot at stake, but Cohen remains optimistic: “I believe in our players. This situation is a chance for us to rise above some adversity and perform well, even though there’s never a good time for injuries.”
He also emphasized confidence in Hunter’s character and competitive spirit, saying, “I really trust in his mindset and how he deals with challenges. I believe he will come back even stronger.” The Jaguars made a strong move to acquire Hunter, trading up in the NFL Draft to secure him, recognizing his exceptional talent at both the offensive and defensive levels during his college career at Colorado.
