SNL Mocks Prince Andrew’s Title Loss
The latest episode of “Saturday Night Live” took a jab at Prince Andrew, now stripped of his royal title.
Michael Che, one of the stars, humorously noted during the “Weekend Update” segment that King Charles had removed Andrew’s title due to his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. Che quipped, “Prince Andrew has been stripped of his royal title ‘Prince’ because of his involvement with Epstein. And he claims he can’t become a prince again unless a young princess kisses him.”
On October 30th, King Charles officially initiated the process to take away Andrew’s title and ordered him to leave the Royal Lodge.
This surprising move comes amid ongoing scrutiny over Andrew’s connections with Epstein, a convicted criminal, which continue to surround his reputation.
In a related announcement last month, Andrew stated he wouldn’t be using the title Duke of York anymore, just before a memoir by his accuser, Virginia Roberts Giuffre, was set to be published.
Giuffre, who tragically took her own life in April at 41, had previously claimed that Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell trafficked her to Andrew when she was just 17.
According to Buckingham Palace, “His Majesty has today begun formal proceedings to strip Prince Andrew of his style, title and honor.” Going forward, he will be referred to as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
The palace also indicated that Andrew’s lease at Royal Lodge had previously allowed him to stay there, but a notice to end his tenancy has now been issued, and he will need to find private accommodations.
While Andrew denies any wrongdoing related to the Epstein scandal, the palace made it clear that King Charles and Queen Camilla express their sympathies for the victims of abuse.
This isn’t the first time “SNL” has touched on Andrew’s royal troubles. In a 2022 episode, co-anchor Colin Jost humorously addressed the prince being stripped of duties by Queen Elizabeth during Giuffre’s lawsuit against him, joking, “This is an unprecedented incident where an adult strips Prince Andrew.”
Following his eviction from the Royal Lodge, it’s reported that Andrew will be relocating to the Sandringham Estate, with King Charles helping to cover the costs of his new living arrangement.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams remarked on Andrew’s situation, suggesting that it would be challenging for him, given his love for titles. He noted, “He turned out to be too greedy,” with many regarding him as entitled and overly ambitious.
