Michael Che Criticizes Prince Andrew After Title Removal
“Saturday Night Live” comedian Michael Che took a jab at Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor following the former prince’s loss of his royal title this past Thursday.
At a press conference, Che, who is 42, stated, “Prince Andrew has been stripped of his royal title ‘Prince’ due to his involvement with Jeffrey Epstein,” during the “Weekend Update” segment in Saturday’s episode. He added, “And Andrew says he can’t go back to being a prince unless he’s kissed by a young princess,” referencing the allegations against Andrew regarding the sexual assault of young women linked to Epstein’s sex trafficking activities.
Earlier this week, King Charles officially announced the decision to revoke Andrew’s titles and initiated steps to remove him from his royal residence.
This title revocation affects his titles as Prince, Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, Baron Killyleagh, and “His Royal Highness.” The honors taken away include the Order of the Garter and the Grand Cross of the Order of Victoria.
Now, Andrew, aged 65, will simply be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
According to sources, he will be moving to Sandringham Private Estate for his new living arrangements.
Sarah Ferguson, Andrew’s ex-wife who has shared royal accommodations with him since 2008, is also seeking to make her own living arrangements after losing her title of Duchess of York.
Despite the controversy surrounding their parents, the couple’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will keep their royal titles.
The formal decision to strip Andrew of his titles was fueled by renewed scrutiny of his past connections to Epstein, who died in August 2019 after facing charges of child sex trafficking.
Before this announcement, Andrew had already stated that he would not use his royal title anymore, citing that the “continued accusations” against him were a distraction from the royal family’s work.
Virginia Giuffre, one of Andrew’s accusers, claimed he sexually assaulted her as part of Epstein’s trafficking operation when she was a minor. Although Andrew denied her allegations, they eventually reached an out-of-court settlement.
Prior to passing away in 2022, Queen Elizabeth had stripped Andrew of his military titles and patronage, marking a significant fallout from the ongoing scandal.
