A Florida man is now facing the death penalty after he killed his pregnant teenage girlfriend and her unborn child, following her refusal to have an abortion.
Donovan Faison, 23, was convicted last week of murdering 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo. In November 2022, Kaylin was discovered shot to death in her vehicle, next to an ultrasound image. Prior to the tragedy, she had emailed her reaction to positive pregnancy tests, exclaiming, “Abortion!!!”
Faison reportedly felt intense “anger and pressure” at the time, particularly since he was living with another woman, with whom he might have been having an affair, according to a statement from the Sanford Police Department.
He had warned a friend in a text, “About my brother’s Graveyard, I’ll cut her out,” referring to the teen, who was already a mother to a toddler named Ace.
After sending that email, Faison lured Fiengo to Coastline Park in Sanford, just north of Orlando. That evening, she was found dead in her car, having told a friend she would meet her there.
Authorities discovered shell casings and ultrasound images in proximity to Fiengo’s body.
“This was an execution-style killing,” prosecutor Stewart Stone stated to the jury. “They should regard the cold, calculated, and premeditated nature of this killing.”
The jury recommended the death penalty with an 11-1 vote. Reports indicate that Fiengo was approaching the end of her first trimester when the murder occurred, though police have yet to confirm if Faison is the father of the fetus.
In his closing arguments, prosecutor Domenic Leo emphasized that the phone messages were “clear and convincing evidence.” He asserted, “He said he was going to do it, and he did it,” about Faison, who was arrested roughly ten months after the incident. “Police caught the right person.”
The final verdict is expected to be delivered on December 5th.
