Philadelphia Eagles Bolster Defensive Line Ahead of Trade Deadline
On Monday, just before the NFL trade deadline, the Philadelphia Eagles strengthened their defensive line, according to various reports. They’ve reportedly made a deal to acquire linebacker Jaelan Phillips from the Miami Dolphins, in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2026 draft. Details on the contract have yet to be revealed.
This trade reunites Phillips with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who worked with him during the 2023 season with the Dolphins. Phillips was having a standout year, recording 6.5 sacks and 43 tackles in just eight games. Unfortunately, his season was cut short due to injury.
As a first-round pick from 2018, Phillips has demonstrated consistent performance. In nine games this season, he tallied 25 tackles and three sacks. Despite the Dolphins’ struggles, including a loss to the Baltimore Ravens last Thursday, Phillips still managed to contribute with four tackles in that game.
He’s currently under a contract worth $13.3 million for this season and is expected to enter free agency before the 2026 season kicks off.
This trade marks the Dolphins’ first move since the team parted ways with general manager Chris Greider. Champ Kelly has stepped in as interim general manager. There have been persistent rumors regarding trade discussions involving several key players, including wide receiver Jaylen Waddle.
For the Eagles, this is their second trade in just three days, following the acquisition of Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander from the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday.
