Bill Maher’s Criticism of Jimmy Kimmel
HBO host Bill Maher expressed his disappointment on Monday regarding late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel, particularly for not acknowledging Maher’s support during Kimmel’s recent suspension over comments related to conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s alleged murderer.
During a new episode of his podcast, “Club Random,” Maher shared with guest Michael Rapaport that he felt Kimmel had distanced himself. “It seems like Jimmy doesn’t like me as much anymore since he thanked everyone except me for supporting him during that week,” Maher remarked.
On a different episode of HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” he voiced his frustration over ABC’s decision to suspend “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” This action followed Kimmel’s controversial suggestion that the suspect in the Kirk case, Tyler Robinson, was a Trump supporter, despite reports indicating Robinson had left-wing tendencies.
Maher quipped, “ABC – ‘Always Be Caving,'” and assured Kimmel, “I’m with you. You won’t have to pretend to enjoy Disneyland anymore.” He recognized that Kimmel’s statements about Robinson weren’t entirely accurate, but emphasized that losing one’s job seemed excessive for such a misstep.
Maher, who faced a firing from ABC in 2002 over remarks about the 9/11 hijackers, noted Kimmel’s ability to deliver an entertaining show.
While he admitted to disagreements with Kimmel’s comments, Maher ultimately felt that such disagreements shouldn’t result in job loss. He stated, “I can’t say I agree with what he said, but I firmly believe we shouldn’t throw him out.” Maher pointed out that this ideological bias in late-night shows, including Kimmel’s, might alienate a significant portion of the audience, saying, “They’re all locked into one side, and that’s why many feel insulted and tune out.”
As of now, FOX News Digital has reached out to representatives for Kimmel but is still awaiting a response.
