George Clooney Criticizes Kamala Harris’ Nomination

George Clooney has expressed that nominating former Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential election was, in his view, a “mistake.” This comment followed former President Joe Biden’s decision to step down from the race. Clooney didn’t hold back in his opinions, urging Biden to resign during a recent interview.

In a CBS interview, Clooney referred to an op-ed he wrote during the 2024 campaign where he called for Biden to withdraw due to concerns about his cognitive abilities. He suggested that Democrats should have organized a primary vote to democratically select a new candidate.

“We had a chance,” Clooney remarked while reflecting on the past election. “As I wrote in my op-ed, I wanted to hold a primary election. Let’s do a quick field test and get going.”

However, instead of facilitating a Democratic primary, party leaders nominated Harris without any votes from party members.

“I think Kamala’s mistake is that she had to run against her own record,” Clooney noted. “If the purpose of running is to say, ‘I’m not that person,’ then that’s a very tough position to be in. It’s a challenging task, and I really think it was a misstep. But now we are where we are.”

Clooney pointed out that although the Democrats faced losses, putting Harris in place of Biden was still a preferable option. “They say we’re going to lose more House seats, so I’m not entirely sure. Not doing that feels akin to not being truthful,” he reflected.

His op-ed titled “I love Joe Biden. But we need a new candidate,” published in July 2024, carried a significant message. Clooney highlighted Biden’s unsatisfactory performance and raised concerns about his age, asserting that the party should pivot to a different candidate.

“We’re not going to win in November with this president. And we’re not going to win the House, and we’re going to lose the Senate. This isn’t merely my opinion; it’s a sentiment shared by every senator, congressman, and governor I’ve spoken to privately,” Clooney stated.

After Donald Trump’s election win, Hunter Biden reacted vocally to Clooney’s criticisms during the campaign season, expressing his frustration through an expletive-laden outburst.

“Forget him!” Hunter Biden exclaimed. “Forget him and everyone around him. No need for niceties!”

Clooney, on receiving Hunter’s remarks, chose to sidestep the drama, even though he had strong feelings about it.

“I could spend a lot of time debunking what he said…But I don’t think it’s beneficial for anyone to dwell on the past, especially him,” Clooney replied. “It’s not helpful for the Democratic Party. So, I’ll just hope for his recovery and leave it at that.”

When not immersed in work, Clooney divides his time between Lake Como in Italy and a home in Los Angeles.
