'Social Network' actor Jesse Eisenberg reveals generous kidney donation

Jesse Eisenberg to Donate Kidney

Jesse Eisenberg, known for his role in ‘The Social Network’, has announced an upcoming altruistic act: he plans to donate his kidney within six weeks. During a recent interview, he expressed excitement about the decision, stating, “I’m actually going to donate my kidney within six weeks.” It’s a big step, indeed.

The actor shared that his interest in donating stemmed from a prior experience of giving blood. “I don’t know why,” he admitted, “but I’ve really been bitten by the blood donation bug.” He’s set to go through with this donation in mid-December, and he’s looking forward to it.

Altruistic Kidney Donation

Eisenberg explained that altruistic donations happen when individuals donate organs to those they don’t know. He mentioned that there really isn’t much risk involved. “I think people will see that if you have the time and motivation, it’s easy,” he remarked.

He also touched on the current shortage of organs in the United States, specified by the Mayo Clinic, where the number of people needing organs often surpasses those from deceased donors. Eisenberg illustrated a scenario: “If someone in Kansas City needs a kidney but their potential donor doesn’t match, I could be a fit.” His kidney would then be put into a “bank” for others in need.

Family Voucher Program

Interestingly, Eisenberg highlighted the National Kidney Registry’s Family Voucher Program. Often, individuals feel hesitant to donate due to worries about their relatives needing organs in the future. This program allows up to five family members of a donor to get a voucher, giving them a priority if they ever need a transplant. “So, there’s no risk to my family either,” he added.
