Trump Endorses Cuomo in New York Mayoral Race
In a recent statement, former President Trump expressed his strong support for Andrew Cuomo in the New York mayoral election. He urged voters to back the former governor to prevent the “communist” candidate Zoran Mamdani from winning.
Trump, who is 79, warned in a message just before the election that if the Democratic candidate emerges victorious, New York City will face an “economic and social disaster.”
On Truth Social, he remarked, “If Mamdani wins, I’m unlikely to contribute the necessary federal funds to my beloved city, as a communist government will likely hinder its ability to prosper.”
He further elaborated, saying, “If the communists take over, things will deteriorate even more. As president, I can’t pour resources into a failing situation. I firmly believe a victory for Mamdani would spell ruin for the city.”
Trump has been vocal for some time about his preference for Cuomo over the Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, but his recent comments were more emphatic.
He added, “I’d rather have a Democrat with proven success than a communist devoid of experience and a track record of failure.”
Notable comments included criticism of Sliwa, whom he claimed was ineffective during his time on the city council and unlikely to bring the city back to its former greatness. Trump also expressed that voting for Sliwa would indirectly support Mamdani.
Finally, he stated, “Regardless of your personal feelings about Andrew Cuomo, you must choose him and hope he performs well. He’s capable; Mamdani isn’t.”
