Demand for Resignation at Charleston Airport

Representative Nancy Mace, a Republican from South Carolina, is calling for the resignation of Charleston Airport CEO Elliott Sammy and is considering legal action after allegations of employee mistreatment surfaced against him.

Mace expressed her frustration in a post, stating, “My attorney is looking into all legal options. Elliott — I expect to see your resignation letter by tomorrow morning. Get ready to type; you’re done.” She added that everyone involved should step down and retract any false accusations.

Mace, who is vying for the role of South Carolina’s governor, has denied allegations of mishandling airport security. Recently, an incident report emerged concerning her behavior at Charleston International Airport on October 30.

The security report highlights that shortly after her arrival at the TSA checkpoint, Mace appeared visibly upset and addressed the personnel loudly, using profanity. According to the report, she complained about the treatment she received, criticizing the police’s competence during the incident.

Spencer Pryor, the airport’s executive vice president, responded to the situation, emphasizing that the safety of the millions of passengers at Charleston International is the top priority. He expressed appreciation for the law enforcement’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment.

Mace, however, dismissed the incident report as politically motivated and claimed it was inaccurate. She pointed out that airport security staff are currently being asked to work without pay due to an ongoing government shutdown.

On Monday night, Mace shared an 18-minute video from airport security that chronicles her experience at the airport. The video shows her arriving, going through security unescorted, and later being escorted to the gate. While at the gate, she was seen using her phone and texting.

Despite the video, Mace’s office has not clarified what specific legal measures she might pursue against the airport or its staff.
