The Seahawks Strengthen Their Roster
The Seattle Seahawks are making bold moves in a competitive NFC landscape.
Recently, they traded for wide receiver Rashid Shahid from the struggling New Orleans Saints, as reported by NFL Network.
With this acquisition, the Seahawks, currently tied for first place in the NFC and NFC West at 6-2 with the Rams, are looking to enhance their offensive lineup alongside standout No. 1 receiver Jackson Smith-Njigba.
For the Saints, who sit at 1-8 and hold the first overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, this trade appears to be a strategy to gather assets as they embrace a rebuilding phase. They received a fourth- and a sixth-round pick in the upcoming draft.
Seattle has gained traction this season, driven by solid performances from veteran quarterback Sam Darnold. Smith-Njigba is also having a breakout year, leading the league in receiving yards.
While the conference has several strong contenders, teams like the Eagles, Packers, Rams, and Buccaneers are facing their own challenges, including injury issues.
Interestingly, this move might help Seattle find a complementary player after the offseason acquisition of Cooper Kupp didn’t yield expected results—Kupp recorded just 24 catches for 293 yards and one touchdown in seven games before missing a recent victory against the Commanders due to injury.
Rookie Torrie Horton has shown promise when given the chance, but he’s not yet a proven asset. In contrast, Shahid has demonstrated his speed and skill on the field, which, theoretically, could boost Smith-Njigba’s effectiveness even further.
Shahid has accumulated 44 catches for 499 yards and two touchdowns this year in a Saints offense that hasn’t been particularly explosive. It’s worth noting that he is at the end of his contract.
For New Orleans, trading Shahid not only generates additional assets but also allows them to assess their roster as they deal with the uncertainty surrounding their future. They’ve recently turned to second-round quarterback Tyler Schau, who will be evaluated throughout the season to help determine if the team needs to draft a quarterback next year.
Looking ahead, a key question remains whether the Saints will find themselves in a position to select promising hometown talent, Arch Manning, who is expected to enter the 2027 NFL Draft.
