Search for Missing College Student in South Carolina
Authorities are on the lookout for a 19-year-old college student from South Carolina who vanished shortly after Halloween. Owen Tillman Kenney was last seen walking on the sidewalk of the Ravenel Bridge a little after 3 a.m.
Initially, police reported that Kenney was wearing a Boston Celtics jersey, which was part of his costume, but later updated the details to reflect that he had a black hooded jacket on, along with light-colored pants and black Nike sneakers with white soles. Standing at 6 feet 1 inch and weighing 155 pounds, Kenney is a student at the College of Charleston.
The last known location of his cell phone was also registered at the Ravenel Bridge.
Kenney’s family expressed their concerns on social media, highlighting how he was just “minutes away from home” when he didn’t return. They added that he might have also been wearing a black zip-up hoodie.
His mother posted on Facebook, sharing her wish for Owen to return home soon. Kenney had transferred to the College of Charleston in January, moving from Tinton Falls, New Jersey. The college stated they are cooperating with law enforcement in this investigation, assuring the community there is no immediate danger related to the situation.
Meanwhile, Kenny’s roommates mentioned they had attempted to track his cell phone, but it had been turned off by the time he went missing.
A local resident recalled her shock upon hearing the news. She remarked how a group of girls were holding signs, seemingly in support, though they didn’t know Kenney personally. It seemed like the whole community felt unsettled by the event, which was unusual for the area.
Holland Cartmill, a fellow student, described the atmosphere on campus as “really eerie.” She noted it was unlike anything she had experienced before and hoped it wasn’t a trend that would continue.
Charleston police are collaborating with the FBI and New Jersey State Police to locate Kenney. They urge anyone with information to reach out to the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 or submit tips through the city’s website.
