Federal marshals are now involved in the manhunt for a 24-year-old from North Carolina, Dominic Liam Connelly, who stands accused of murdering his grandmother, setting her house ablaze, and stabbing a deputy. He was last seen in Vanceboro, North Carolina, and authorities believe he may have connections to New York. They emphasize that he is considered armed and dangerous.
The body of his grandmother, 72-year-old Patricia Jean Timek Lopedote, was discovered in the ruins of her home in Craven County. Connelly faces several charges, including murder, arson, motor vehicle theft, attempted murder, and felony assault.
As the investigation unfolds, authorities have released surveillance images of Connelly. It’s noteworthy that Sheriff Chip Hughes mentioned the possibility that he may have received assistance in acquiring new clothes.
Connelly is described as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing around 180 pounds, with wavy blonde hair and blue eyes. His last sighting was on October 31, near a specific location in Vanceboro, where he was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt and camouflage pants. He was also carrying what appeared to be a bag.
Efforts to find Connelly in the surrounding area have thus far yielded no results. Local residents are being asked to check their trail cameras and home security systems for any sighting. On November 4, a Ring camera captured footage of a man believed to be Connelly, this time dressed in tan clothing and carrying a backpack among other items.
Following the tragic sequence of events, schools in the area have shifted to remote classes and local Halloween activities have been postponed, highlighting the community’s tension during this tough time. If anyone sees Connelly, they’re urged to notify authorities immediately. The U.S. Marshals can be contacted at 1-877-WANTED2 for any leads.
Interestingly, court records reveal that Connelly had encounters with law enforcement back in 2017, facing charges like contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Reflections from his grandmother’s online obituary paint her as a devoted caretaker and generous heart, which makes this ordeal all the more heartbreaking.
