Graham Supports Scott Over Mace’s Airport Incident Remarks
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) expressed solidarity with Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) concerning Representative Nancy Mace’s (R-S.C.) criticism following an incident at Charleston International Airport.
Graham tweeted, “I agree with Senator Tim Scott’s statement about the men and women who ensure security at Charleston International Airport.” He noted that he has had similar experiences, mentioning the positive interactions he’s had with the police and TSA agents at the airport.
Scott responded on social media, defending himself against Mace’s remarks about a security guard who failed to greet him on time. “For reasons unknown, Congresswoman Nancy Mace referred to me during and after her situation at the airport. I want to clarify that I’ve been using that airport long before I came to Congress, and all my encounters have been positive.”
He further praised the airport police for their professionalism, stating they go above and beyond their duties. Scott also mentioned that extra security measures had been implemented after multiple death threats directed at him.
During her reprimand of the officers, Mace reportedly criticized them, saying they were “totally incompetent” and questioned how they could treat “a f**king U.S. representative” in such a manner. According to a CNN report, she added that she would never treat Scott in the same way.
In a separate social media update, Graham highlighted the airport’s significance, describing it as “a world-class tourist gateway and critical to the Lowcountry’s economy.” He also pointed out that he has secured nearly $40 million for improvements in the area over the last four years.
A few hours later, Mace appeared to respond to Graham’s comments on social media, quipping, “Interesting. Lindsey Graham suddenly wants to talk about women,” followed by a monocle emoji. “Hold the line.”
