Breece Hall’s Situation with the Jets
Breece Hall was the subject of trade rumors earlier this spring. Yet, he was present at Jets practice on Wednesday, right after the trade deadline had passed. The team traded Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams but decided to hold onto Hall.
“As I’ve mentioned since the summer, nothing is guaranteed for me,” Hall remarked. “I can’t say I’m the same player they drafted. There are no assurances. I’ve been focused on trying to win each week, and that’s just how it goes.”
There were some reports on Tuesday suggesting that Hall was open to a trade. He didn’t fully deny these claims but clarified that he never asked to be traded.
“A lot of what was reported stemmed from the summer. Some things were true, some were not. I’m just leaving it there,” Hall explained. “The important thing is that I’m here, and we’re gearing up to face Cleveland this week. That’s my main concern.”
When asked if he would welcome a trade, Hall said, “I don’t think it’s up to the player whether he gets traded or not. It’s not really about if I want to be traded.” His answer about wanting to be traded was a bit firmer.
“No, like I said, if it’s meant to happen, it will happen regardless of what I want. You can’t control the future. You just have to stay in your lane and roll with whatever comes your way,” he stated.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn reiterated his stance, as he’s consistently done when Hall’s name comes up in trade discussions. “I’ve stated many times that I didn’t want to let Breece go. He’s a solid player.”
Looking ahead, the Jets will have to make decisions regarding Hall after the 2025 season since he is set to become a free agent in March. When asked if he wants to stay with the team next year, Hall’s response was somewhat reserved. He indicated that his focus is currently on the season at hand.
It’s clear that the emotional toll of recent losses has impacted Hall. “It’s really frustrating,” he said. “I don’t usually compare myself to others, but I know I’m among the better running backs in this league. When the team falls behind early, it can be tough to show that ability. We end up having to throw more to catch up, which limits opportunities to make plays.” He added, “I truly appreciate the coaching staff and what Coach Glenn is trying to accomplish.”
