Antonio Brown’s Extradition After Arrest
Antonio Brown is taking a step back in light of recent legal troubles. Upon being extradited from Dubai to the U.S., he made a statement on social media, saying, “I handed over the keys to social media and CTESPN to my team while I overcome my fight for innocence.” He ended the post with the hashtag “#FREEAB.”
The 37-year-old was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Dubai on Thursday and transported to New Jersey, where he is now awaiting extradition to Miami.
This former wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who famously bolted off the field during a 2021 game with the Buccaneers, faces serious allegations. He is accused of seizing a gun from a security guard and shooting at Zulu Karnain Kwame Nantambu during a brawl following a celebrity boxing match on May 16; Nantambu reported that a bullet grazed his neck during the incident.
In a follow-up post, Brown shared that he was attacked by multiple individuals trying to steal his jewelry, insisting that police briefly detained him but later accepted his side of the story. He claimed he returned home that night without being arrested, and he plans to discuss the charges against the person who confronted him with his legal team.
If convicted of the alleged second-degree murder, he could face up to 15 years behind bars and potentially a $10,000 fine. Over his 12-year NFL career, Brown collected impressive stats with 928 receptions for 12,291 yards and 83 touchdowns, though his later years were often marred by various off-field controversies.
Brown has been the subject of multiple lawsuits through the years, including a notable incident in 2019 where he threw furniture from a high-rise window. In 2020, he entered a no-contest plea to felony charges related to an altercation with a truck driver. Additionally, he has faced accusations of sexual assault and domestic violence from multiple women.
In 2023, he stated he was dealing with CTE, a degenerative brain disease known to affect behavior, though a living diagnosis has yet to be confirmed.
