Charlamagne Tha God Urges Democrats to End Government Shutdown

On a recent episode of “The Breakfast Club,” co-host Charlamagne tha God expressed strong feelings about the ongoing government shutdown, urging Democrats to “stop playing with people’s lives” and reopen the federal government. This call came after the Democratic Party’s wins in various state and local elections.

“I genuinely feel for the federal workers who’ve already missed two paychecks, especially since many are living paycheck to paycheck,” he stated. “Plus, people aren’t getting their SNAP benefits. We really need to restart the government. It doesn’t matter who’s at fault. Let’s end the political games with people’s lives.”

Charlamagne highlighted not just the plight of federal workers and the complications around SNAP benefits but also the rising costs of healthcare, which he noted have been worsened by the shutdown.

“Folks, it’s time to reopen the government. Democrats had a good night in the elections. Your premiums are already rising,” he continued. “We’ve got to move forward. People need to pay rent, childcare, utilities, and car payments,” he added.

Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) contributed to the discussion, claiming that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York privately suggested delaying the government reopening until after Election Day. “Chuck Schumer mentioned that if they hold off until after the election, he’d facilitate things,” Mullin paraphrased. “This is really about politics, not policy. They’re using the American people as leverage, and that’s unfair.” He noted that Democrats are nervous about their electoral prospects in places like Virginia, New Jersey, and New York.

Charlamagne previously echoed similar sentiments, stating that it’s unproductive for Democrats to maintain the shutdown over unresolved issues. “Healthcare costs will rise regardless due to that ‘big, beautiful bill,’ which lacks any tax credit extensions,” he pointed out. “So what’s the point of the shutdown if costs are going up anyway?” He also remarked on people already receiving notifications of changes in their health insurance premiums. “If premiums are set for a year and they’re rising, we should at least let the government reopen for some peace of mind,” he proposed.

In his final remarks, Charlamagne appealed directly to Democratic leaders, suggesting it’s time to acknowledge the situation and restore crucial services like SNAP. “You fought hard, but it seems you’ve lost the battle. It’s important now to give people relief. Let’s get these government workers paid and end the chaos at TSA during the holidays. Seriously, it feels like it’s over,” he concluded.
