Antonio Brown Faces Serious Charges Following N.J. Extradition
Former NFL player Antonio Brown is set to appear in a New Jersey court on Friday, facing attempted murder charges after being extradited from Dubai. This incident traces back to a brawl at a celebrity boxing event in Miami last May.
Brown allegedly fired two shots at a man named Zulu Karnain Kwame Nantambu. There’s even purported cellphone video from a witness that shows the confrontation.
“Cellphone video obtained from social media showed Mr. Brown, with a firearm in his hand, advancing toward Mr. Nantambu during an outdoor stroll,” according to the arrest affidavit.
Interestingly, since June, Brown has seemed to downplay the situation on social media, making posts that appear to mock the charges. One of his more provocative remarks included, “What doesn’t kill me makes me stronger. Want to play? Then play hard.”
Prosecutors state that Brown got into a physical altercation with Nantambu outside the boxing match and seized a gun from a security guard. Nantambu claims he was shot at, with one bullet grazing his neck.
Witness video reportedly confirms this narrative, showing Brown lunging toward Nantambu and two shots being fired in close proximity. Following the incident, Brown was initially arrested but later released when Nantambu’s identity was clarified.
On a different note, Brown’s 37-year-old counterpart claimed on social media to have been acting in self-defense when confronted by multiple individuals who allegedly stole her jewelry.
Brown is slated to be transferred from New Jersey to Miami-Dade, Florida. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years in prison and fines reaching $10,000.
In an unexpected twist, Nantambu is also known for carrying a Palestinian flag during a Super Bowl halftime performance, and he was arrested in June for resisting police and disturbing the peace.
Brown, once recognized as one of the NFL’s premier wide receivers and a Super Bowl champion, has had erratic behavior that has led some to speculate about possible CTE, a common brain condition in football players. He has been known to dismiss such claims with sardonic comments on social media.
After being extradited, he posted a message stating, “I have handed over the keys to social media and CTESPN to my team while I continue my fight for my innocence.”
