Trump Appoints Long Island Businessman as Ambassador to Hungary
President Trump has chosen Benjamin Landa, a Long Island businessman, to serve as the U.S. ambassador to Hungary.
Landa, 69, who resides in Lawrence and is the child of Holocaust survivors, has been confirmed for this diplomatic role, according to reports.
In his words, “For him [Trump], knowing all that, being given the opportunity to represent my country is the greatest honor that has ever been given to me.”
Landa’s father, Yehoshua Borch Landa, was a rabbi in Czechoslovakia before facing Nazi persecution during the Holocaust. After surviving those dark times, he immigrated to America and eventually settled in Brooklyn, where Landa grew up.
“Despite all the horrors my father endured, he never lost his humanity or his sense of humor,” Landa reflected. “It taught me resilience and the idea of starting anew, rising like a phoenix from the depths of hell. That was my father. He never gave up.”
A former Yeshiva student and graduate of Adelphi University, Landa had a notable career in the nursing home sector, co-founding Sentosa Care LLC in Woodmere, New York.
He’s also recognized as a philanthropist, supporting various Jewish causes in New York City and Long Island, including the Crohn’s and Colitis Federation of America and Chabad of Port Washington.
Landa has contributed to Republican campaigns, including support for Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, who has known Landa for three decades. “He’s a great businessman, he cares a lot about the United States, he knows Hungary really well, and I think this is a great appointment,” Blakeman commented.
Former Governor George Pataki, who has Hungarian roots, expressed confidence in Landa’s qualifications for the role. “Hungary remains an important ally during this complex world situation,” he noted. “Having someone with Ben Landa’s understanding of culture, history, and people, along with his lifelong record of service, will be a great asset to our country.”
Landa has stated that he is prepared to support his fellow Americans and will take an open approach to his new position. “I am a strong believer in helping others and those less fortunate than myself. I will have an open door policy and help Americans in need,” he affirmed.
