Injury Update on JK Dobbins
It seems we’ve had our fill of JK Dobbins for now.
Sadly, he recently fell victim to a controversial hip drop tackle which has stirred quite a bit of discussion.
The Denver Broncos running back sustained a leg injury during a play in the second half of the team’s 10-7 victory over the Raiders on Thursday night, as reported by NFL Network.
Dobbins, at 26, was tackled by Raiders defensive lineman Tyree Wilson towards the end of the third quarter, putting his weight on Dobbins’ lower leg.
In what turned out to be a low-scoring game, Dobbins’ foot became trapped as Wilson’s momentum carried him forward. Surprisingly, no penalty flag was thrown for the hip drop tackle.
Despite the situation, the 26-year-old managed to limp back into the game, finishing with 77 yards on 18 carries.
Dobbins expressed his desire for action against such tackles on Friday, suggesting they should be banned or at least properly officiated. Had a penalty been called for the hip drop, it would have resulted in a 15-yard penalty and a fresh set of downs for the Broncos. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case this time.
“Ban hip drop tackles or at least call your mom!” Dobbins noted in a social media post.
Regardless of the drama surrounding the play, the win was met with some discontent from fans, mostly due to Denver’s offensive struggles.
After the game, Dobbins commented, “We’re all on the same page. There’s really no need for extra talk; we’ll figure this out together. Yes, we’re 8-2, but we want more. We’re all winners here.” His optimism seemed genuine, even if there was a hint of frustration under the surface.
Dobbins has had his share of injuries before, notably a torn Achilles tendon while playing for the Ravens in 2023.
He had a rocky start to this season as well, but made a comeback in 2024, gathering 905 yards and nine touchdowns on 195 carries while with the Chargers. So far in this current season, he’s amassed 772 yards and four touchdowns on 153 carries, along with 11 receptions for 37 yards.
