Oscar Isaac's Nude Science in Netflix's 'Frankenstein' Is Just What We Wanted

Oscar Isaac’s Nude Scene in Frankenstein: A Bold Move by Del Toro

Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming film, *Frankenstein*, scheduled for release in 2025, appears to be delivering an unexpected gift to audiences. The Oscar-winning director has crafted a rather audacious scene featuring Oscar Isaac, who portrays the titular character, Dr. Victor Frankenstein, completely naked while engaged in a mad science experiment. It’s hard to ignore the mix of excitement and disbelief—surely this isn’t standard lab procedure.

*Frankenstein* takes inspiration from Mary Shelley’s classic 1818 novel. In this adaptation, Isaac plays the eccentric scientist obsessed with defying death and creating new life, backed financially by a wealthy benefactor, played by Christoph Waltz. For months, Victor struggles to revive a corpse, until one fateful day in the bath, inspiration strikes.

After turning down a romantic proposal from Mia Goth’s character, Victor seeks solace in a hot bath.

While there, an idea suddenly dawns on him. He leaps from the tub, racing to a mirror to contemplate his newfound revelation concerning anatomy and physiology. Okay, so maybe the specifics are less essential, considering the unbelievable nature of his task! But, really, I mean, Isaac’s physique definitely draws attention in its own right.

As he peers into the mirror, the sheen of the bathwater accentuates the muscles in his shoulders. Drawing nearer to his ominous experiment involving sewn-up corpses, there’s a cheeky moment (literally) as he flashes his bare rear end to the camera. Quite the sight, really.

Then comes my favorite point of the scene. Daringly undressed, Victor begins manipulating wires and tools as part of his experiment. Naked science—indeed! And voilà, success!

As the creature gasps its first breath, it unleashes a terrifying roar. Victor, perhaps wisely, takes a step back—there’s not much protection for him at that moment.

Some might call this a gratuitous nude scene, especially those who believe it doesn’t add to the film. I, however, find it fitting for Victor’s character. Impulsive and somewhat self-absorbed, he wouldn’t bat an eye at the idea of working naked. I mean, when inspiration hits, who thinks about clothes? And honestly, he’s got nothing to be shy about.

Del Toro has a knack for merging sensuality with his monster tales. While Isaac’s revealing moment isn’t quite as overt as the aquatic romance in *The Shape of Water*, it’s still enough to capture attention as the film unfolds. It truly may just be the perfect surprise for viewers. Too bad we didn’t receive an early sneak peek from del Toro himself.
