Dan Aykroyd’s 50-Foot Fall and Beliefs in the Unbelievable

After a dramatic fall from a roof, Dan Aykroyd feels he was saved by something beyond his understanding. The 73-year-old actor and comedian, known for hosting “The UnBelievable” on the History Channel, sees the series not just as entertainment but as a connection to extraordinary experiences in human history.

“I survived a fall from 50 feet,” Aykroyd recounted. “There has to be footage of it somewhere, I’m sure. I was chasing Gilda Radner during a children’s performance for CBC, and we all wore black raincoats like spies. I had a fever of 104 degrees that day but still showed up to work.”

He explained the moment, saying, “Instead of following her around the skylight, I decided to step over it. I thought it would hold my weight, but it shattered beneath me.”

Regarding his fall, Aykroyd noted, “I fell from the roof, hit a light standard that cushioned my fall a bit, then landed hard. It was one of those moments where I thought, ‘Wow, this is a story for the ages.’” He expressed his belief that he had used up one of his cat lives in that incident.

Aykroyd believes in divine intervention, stating, “In situations like this, it feels like there’s a guiding force.” He also brought up the idea of angels, hinting that perhaps something was looking out for him that day.

Interestingly, Aykroyd has experience with the mystical side of life. He once lived in a house formerly owned by Mama Cass Elliott. Over the years, he and his family experienced numerous peculiar occurrences there, which made him wonder more about the supernatural. “The house had character,” he noted, mentioning how professionals working there sometimes felt a weight on their shoulders or noticed strange sightings at the end of the hall.

Despite his fascination with the supernatural, Aykroyd admits to being skeptical initially, especially about mediums and the afterlife. “My family believed in mediums and communicating with spirits. It’s just always been part of my life, but I didn’t fully buy into it until I had my own experiences.” He emphasized that once he visited a medium in Lily Dale, New York, his doubts lessened significantly.

These days, while Aykroyd reflects on his past and his legendary friends like John Belushi, he’s also focused on simpler things. “I like to clean drawers and keep things organized,” he said, adding that if it weren’t for his family, he might choose a life of solitude with only a motorcycle and a simple TV for company.

“The UnBelievable with Dan Aykroyd” airs Fridays at 9 p.m., and he encourages viewers to watch while featuring tales that seem impossible but are undeniably real.
