Jerry Turner, known as the “Golden Bachelor,” has shared his feelings of betrayal towards his ex-wife, Teresa Nist, following their divorce. In a recent appearance on the podcast “I’ll Do It, Part 2,” the 74-year-old reflected on the promises they made before their split.
Turner recounted that just before publicly announcing their divorce on “Good Morning America,” they had agreed to support one another, and that neither would make any statements without mutual consent. Yet, shortly after their announcement, Nist posted her own take on Instagram, which left him feeling surprised and hurt.
He described his reaction to her post, declaring, “Here we go,” and noted that it didn’t align with the spirit of their agreement. Nist expressed in her Instagram message that meeting Turner had been an extraordinary experience, adding, “Sometimes things don’t go as planned, and that’s okay.”
The couple met during the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor and tied the knot on live television in January 2024. However, just three months later, they decided to part ways.
Reflecting on their short-lived marriage, Turner admitted it was a “grave mistake.” He acknowledged that, in hindsight, it was easy to see the issues that led to their separation. He felt he had let not just Nist down but his family as well. Despite not pinpointing a specific moment that indicated the marriage was ending, he realized it had been a gradual decline.
Nist also shared her thoughts on their split during the podcast, mentioning that she viewed the end of their marriage as a mistake. She recounted feeling depressed post-divorce, questioning her inadequacies after what she deemed a successful 43 years prior.
Turner’s recent memoir, “Golden Years,” released earlier this week, delves into his personal struggles, including the loss of his first wife, his journey on reality TV, and the lessons acquired from his time with Nist.
In a positive turn, Turner has begun a new chapter in his life, getting engaged to Lana Sutton earlier this year. He expressed his joy and satisfaction on Instagram, announcing, “The Golden Bachelor is off the market.” He shared his enthusiasm for finding what he described as his perfect match.
