Quarterback Zach Calzada Issues Apology for NIL Money Video
Kentucky quarterback Zach Calzada has expressed regret after sharing a video flaunting his NIL earnings with critics. In the clip, he seems to be addressing someone named Garrett, urging detractors to “stop hating and go get your money.” He then casually showcased stacks of $100 bills, saying, “But you don’t have anything, so count my money. Let me count it. Straight hundreds, Garrett. Don’t lose count.”
Following the video’s spread on social media, including a share by Garrett, Calzada took to Instagram to apologize. He wrote, “To my teammates, coaches, and everyone who has believed in me along the way, I take full responsibility for the video I sent to anyone on social media. I let my emotions take over, and it does not reflect the gratitude I deserve to share as a member of the Kentucky football team. I sincerely apologize to my teammates, coaches, and fans. I will learn from this and move forward by doing a better job and respecting the opportunities I have been given.”
Calzada previously transferred from Incarnate Word, an FCS school, for $1.25 million. However, he has only played in two games for Kentucky, struggling with his performance and ultimately being benched in favor of redshirt freshman Cutter Bouley.
Currently, the Wildcats hold a record of 3-5 this season, having lost all five of their SEC matches.
