Olivia Rodrigo Critiques DHS for Song Use in Controversial Video
Pop star Olivia Rodrigo recently expressed her frustration on social media, targeting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) after they used her song in a video regarding deportation.
The video, which was also featured on the official White House Instagram account, conveyed a strong message to undocumented immigrants. It warned them about the risks of being captured or violently arrested, contrasted against a suggestion that they would be treated with kindness if they chose to leave voluntarily. This juxtaposition was accompanied by a shift in the soundtrack, moving from intense punk music to softer vocal sections, both extracted from Rodrigo’s 2023 track, “All American Bitch.”
The video also promoted the CBP Home app, which undocumented immigrants can use to seek federal assistance for returning to their home countries.
In the comment section, Rodrigo bluntly wrote, “Please never use my songs to promote racist and hateful propaganda.”
A spokesperson from DHS responded, emphasizing gratitude for federal law enforcement and suggesting that Rodrigo should recognize their sacrifices rather than undermine their service.
At just 22, Rodrigo, who gained fame as a Disney Channel star, has been vocal about various left-wing issues. Since her meteoric rise in the music industry, she has openly supported causes ranging from reproductive rights to COVID-19 vaccinations, often expressing strong disdain for those who oppose her views.
For instance, following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade, she dedicated a performance of her song “Fuck You” to several conservative justices, stating, “They really don’t care about freedom,” and concluded with, “We hate you.”
In June 2025, Rodrigo condemned ICE activities in Los Angeles, expressing her outrage over what she described as violent deportations under the current administration. She argued that Los Angeles wouldn’t thrive without its immigrant population, criticizing the treatment of hardworking community members as disrespectful and lacking empathy. “I stand with the beautiful and diverse community of Los Angeles and immigrants across America,” she declared.
