Häagen-Dazs recalls ice cream bars due to hidden wheat hazard

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream is recalling thousands of Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars sold across more than 30 states due to the potential presence of undeclared wheat, according to federal officials.

The voluntary recall was announced on November 3rd, with the Food and Drug Administration providing more details the following day. The affected batch, identified as LLA519501, involves a 6-piece box of treats that has a “best by” date of January 31, 2027.

These products were distributed to Kroger and Giant Eagle supermarkets in various states, including California, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. It’s important to note that no other Haagen-Dazs items or batches are involved.

Dreyer’s stated that the recall was initiated after it was discovered that bars containing wheat were mistakenly placed in boxes that did not have the allergen listed on their labels.

The company warned that individuals with wheat allergies or severe sensitivities could face serious or potentially life-threatening reactions if they consume these products.

This recall impacts Kroger stores in states such as Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin, as well as Giant Eagle locations in Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

The batch code can be found on the box beneath the “Best before date: January 31, 2027” label.

No illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection to this issue, Dreyer’s noted, while expressing that the recall was necessary because the wheat-containing product was unintentionally repackaged in incorrect boxes during production.

Dreyer’s is currently collaborating with the FDA as part of the recall process and is committed to fully cooperating.
