Elon Musk Faces Criticism Over AI-Generated Video
Elon Musk is drawing laughter—and not the good kind—after posting an AI-generated video featuring a woman saying, “I will always love you.”
In this brief clip he shared on X early Saturday morning, a young brunette smiles warmly at the camera before delivering her line. The video was intended to showcase the impressive new video creation technology of Grok Imagine, a branch of Musk’s xAI company. However, it quickly garnered a flood of remarks poking fun at the billionaire.
One user commented, “Saddest post in the history of this website. I’m crying.”
Another pointed out, “This was posted at 3am Central Time,” alluding to Musk’s Texas mansion.
Then there was a joke about it being the “most divorced post in history.” Ouch. Many users highlighted that the timing was curious, coming just after Tesla shareholders approved Musk’s significant $1 trillion pay package. It led some to suggest that wealth doesn’t equate to happiness.
“I can just picture my brother getting a $1 trillion salary package, and then a few hours later, an AI saying ‘I love you’ to him,” one comment read, suggesting that without love to share, money isn’t everything. “If this isn’t proof, I don’t know what is,” they added.
Despite the jesting, Musk remains optimistic about the long-term promise of AI. But he’s also aware it could lead to significant job losses, particularly in traditional desk roles. In a recent podcast with Joe Rogan, Musk characterized AI as a “supersonic tsunami” that will bring about considerable “trauma and disruption.”
“Jobs involving physical tasks, like those in food preparation and agriculture, will stay relevant for a while,” he noted. “But any digital work done from behind a screen? That’s going to be overtaken at breakneck speed.”
On a more hopeful note for those in desk jobs, he suggested that automation might also lead to a future where work becomes optional. Musk spoke about the potential for a universal high income, which could allow everyone to access the goods and services they desire, even if it comes with considerable upheaval along the way.
