Katy Perry Opens Up About Breakup Ballad ‘Bandaids’

Katy Perry has shared her thoughts on releasing her emotional breakup song, “Bandaids,” following her split from ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom.

She expressed gratitude on Instagram, mentioning, “Thank you for putting the bandaid on me…” along with behind-the-scenes photos from the music video.

“I struggled for months with the decision to put this song out… It’s still scary to show this side of myself after all these years,” she confessed.

Perry hopes that the song’s lyrics will resonate with anyone going through a similar experience, encouraging them to find strength and not feel alone, adding, “just like I did ❤️‍🩹.”

Fans have rallied around her, with one user commenting, “So proud of you, Katy. Thank you for this beautiful song 🥺 Your Katy Cats are always here for you.” Another wrote, “It’s all about being authentic! You represent resilience! We love you ❤️.”

The track appears to reflect on the end of her nearly ten-year relationship with Bloom, with lyrics like, “Hands on God, I swear I tried/No stone left unturned,” indicating a sense of disappointment in what was left undone.

As she sings, “I’m used to you letting me down/There’s no use trying to send you flowers anymore,” it conveys a feeling of disillusionment. She acknowledges that despite promises to change, they often don’t come to fruition, comparing it to “putting a Band-Aid on a broken heart.”

Within the song, Perry also highlights her efforts to mend the relationship, but it suggests her partner was not equally invested. “It’s not that complicated/Ask me how my day was,” she sings, expressing her desire to save what they had.

Interestingly, even amidst the heartbreak, she speaks fondly of the relationship, saying she has no regrets and would “give it another go,” affirming that it was worth the experience.

Although she refrains from mentioning her ex directly, she draws attention to their daughter, Daisy, towards the end of the music video, subtly connecting her personal life to the song.

Perry confirmed her breakup with Bloom in July, but she appears to have moved on, reportedly getting close to former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who is said to be quite taken with her.
