Gordon Ramsay declines to make menus for users of the weight loss drug Ozempic

Gordon Ramsay’s Views on Weight Loss Drugs

Gordon Ramsay has shared his thoughts on whether his restaurant menus will adapt to cater to customers using weight loss medications like Ozempic and Munjaro. In a recent interview with the Sunday Times, the 59-year-old chef was asked about the possibility of creating a special menu for diners taking GLP-1 drugs, known for suppressing appetite.

Interestingly, Heston Blumenthal, another well-known chef, recently introduced a tasting menu called “The Mindful Experience” at his Michelin-starred restaurant, The Fat Duck, which features smaller portions for those using weight-loss medications.

“That’s totally nonsense,” Ramsay declared emphatically. He seems to believe that the problem stems from the diners themselves, suggesting they aren’t controlling their portions. “It’s because you eat too much!” he stated, firmly opposing the idea of creating an Ozempic-specific menu.

Ramsay added, “There’s no way I’m going to serve you an Ozempic tasting menu by 10:30 p.m. and feel less fat,” showcasing his consistent commitment to traditional dining experiences.

Ozempic, Munjaro, and similar GLP-1 drugs were initially created for treating type 2 diabetes but have gained attention for their significant weight loss benefits. They mimic hormones to curb appetite and enhance feelings of fullness.

During the interview, Ramsay expressed annoyance towards the influence of social media on dining, criticizing the prevalence of phones at the table. He recalled a time when he was focused on enjoying food, instead of posting about it. “I was ringing traffic lights and posting about how good the food was,” he commented. It’s clear he believes that the dining atmosphere shouldn’t be overshadowed by distractions.

Ramsay also pointed out that Americans tend to have poor phone etiquette when dining out, often taking pictures with flash on, which he finds inconsiderate.

In addition to his strong opinions on dining trends, Ramsay is currently featured in Season 24 of Hell’s Kitchen as well as other cooking shows. His restaurant ventures total around 90 locations worldwide, covering a mix of fine dining and casual spots, with a few renowned establishments like his flagship restaurant in London.

The celebrity chef recently opened a fine-dining venue named Bonheur in Mayfair, London. He stated that this new restaurant will not cater to the influencer crowd, aiming instead for a more traditional dining experience. “Bonheur is not going to be flooded with TikTokers,” he remarked.
