Bill Maher Expresses Desire for Another Dinner with Trump
On the “Club Random” podcast this past Monday, comedian Bill Maher shared that he would like to have dinner with former President Donald Trump again. Maher previously attended a dinner with Trump in March, alongside UFC president Dana White and musician Kid Rock.
During the discussion, Maher reflected on how Trump engaged with him, expressing that he appreciated how the former president listened to differing opinions. Despite criticizing him publicly, Maher noted that Trump seemed open to dialogue and didn’t attempt to distance himself from Maher. He remarked, “I’d love to have dinner with him again. He definitely doesn’t like criticism and thinks it’s unfair, but he’s willing to listen.” Maher contrasted this with some individuals on the left, who he believes might be more inclined to sever connections over disagreement.
In a previous episode of “Real Time with Bill Maher,” he also mentioned that Trump feels more approachable than recent Democratic presidents, suggesting this may contribute to the Democratic Party’s declining popularity. “Honestly, I felt more at ease speaking with Trump than with the likes of Clinton or Obama,” he stated, suggesting that this could symbolize broader issues with the Democratic Party’s appeal.
Maher faced some backlash for his views, notably after a July podcast episode. He criticized the left for their stance of refusing to engage with the right, suggesting it creates unnecessary division. “The riskiest thing the left can do is adopt an attitude of, ‘We won’t even break bread with you,’” he said, calling for more constructive dialogue instead.
